Why do people tell others what they want to hear?
I am so sickened by this. It's saturated throughout our culture. Lies are used to get ahead, are used for conveniences or to avoid conflict.
Why is this chosen over truth?
If someone asks me if I think they look good in their blue coat jacket, and it doesn't look good, I'll ask them first, "Do you want me to tell you the truth or tell you what you want to hear?"
Of course, since curiosity does tend to kill the cat, they always answer back, "the truth", and of course, like the gullible idiot I can sometimes be, I give them the truth. The result? They never talk to me again. So, why did they answer back that they wanted the truth!? I should have lied and told them what they wanted to hear, because that's how society works. People thrive off of it. It makes them feel better about themselves, even if it's just an illusion. It's part of the work force~~a huge part of it. To lie is to get business deals and contracts signed between two parties. It's even done in the government. Hey, the president has never ceased to lie to us. I guess something profound could be said about this.
When does the lying end?
Hmmmmm.....good question.
I certainly do my best to tell the truth as much as humanly possible. Sometimes telling the truth could have grave reprocussions. It's really sad how life works that way. Also, there are a lot of gray areas to what is truth and what is a lie. Perfect example: the justice system. Need I say more?
All we can do is do our best.
If I am in the company of people who think the way I do and would rather tell the truth without getting the cold shoulder or to be on the receiving end of a lot of flack, I'll tell the truth~~ALWAYS!!! I think it's better to tell the truth and avoid the games.
Society makes it so one cannot avoid getting caught in a web. One is forced into it.
Truth be told, I'd rather tell the truth, that is, if everyone had enough of the stomach to take it.
I do.

is it? well, it is easier when you have done nothing that you would end up lying about. I am not sure how old you are, but I suppose as life goes on, you will see the different shades out there... some gray, etc... I am not saying lying is right.. I am saying that you do find yourself in a position where telling the truth is NOT easier.. it is a killer... Like Sam Kinnison used to say... F the truth, the truth never kept anyone together.. LIES.. LIES enhance your relationship and keep you together...

You want the truth? DO YOU REALLY WANNA KNOW THE TRUTH?
YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!
Ok, now that I got that out of my system, people lie for alot of reasons. Some people are afraid of the truth because it can hurt other people. Some people don't think the truth is interesting enough. Others feel that it may jeopardize something in their own life telling others the truth. Mostly it has to do with a lack of respect for self and others (whether it's realized or unrealized).

No. They lie when they feel that the lie is easier - that's the motivation.
They lie to cover their misdeeds so they can avoid punishment or anger.
They lie to avoid telling the truth someone does not want to hear and upsetting or alienating that person.
They lie to make people do things it would otherwise take a long time to talk them into - if they could be persuaded at all!
They lie to get things they cannot afford and do things they should not be allowed to do.
The list goes on..and on.
But the truth is - they truly believe the lie is the easy way out.

It seems lieing is part of life today and sad that it has become a way of life. It is easier to tell a lie and now get into trouble than to tell teh truth and get punished. I would prefer people tell the truth but you just have to realize many don't, so what I try to do is listen to them and figure out it it's true or not.

The truth sometimes hurt and lieing covers up what you have or haven't done. Lieing covers at least for a time being a problem, or an action that we are not proud of.

The truth doesn't hurt. Lies get worse and worse and worse. The truth is there and you deal with it. Lies just lead to more.
People are too chicken to stand up for the truth, and too arrogant to tell what the the truth is.
They don't respect others enough to tell them the truth.
