Do you have any female you could talk to-any teacher, school nurse, a neighbor, or even an older friend who already has her period? If not you can ask a lot of questions on here. www.beinggirl.com has a lot of information on it and a guide to chosing the right pad and/or tampon for you. As soon as you can tell your dad that your period has started and that he needs to go with you to buy some pads. Most girls are fine using regular or slender pads at first because they don't have heavy periods. Your period probably won't be regular for about 2 years but eventually it will settle down into a routine cycle-usually around 28 days. Keep up with what date each period starts so you can try to predict them.

Any female teacher can help you too.
Go to the grocery store and get a pack of PADS, not tampons. Those will be easier to use. The Always brand has 'wings' which fold over the sides of the underwear and can help keep the underwear from getting blood on it. I like that brand. You'llneed to change pads when they fill up too far, about every 4 hours on the first 2 days. I think the pack will cost you around $5. Get the medium to heavy ones, the thins won't give you enough protection. They have adhesive on the back, you press them to your underwear (there are pictures inside).
If you get blood on the underwear, as we all do, just wash it out by hand with cold water and bar soap, rub it between your hands, it'll come out. If you use hot water it'll set in and never come out.
Keep a few pads in your purse for 'just in case'. I usually put one in my winter jacket pocket too.
Usually a period lasts 5 days. The first two are the heavy flow days, then it tapers off. If you get cramps, take ibuprophin - don't overdose on that, you don't need much. Try to ignore the cramping if you can. Aspirin doesn't help much with period cramps. Ibuprophin does. Or Aleve.

1 ) maybe you can talk to a school nurse about it?
2 ) if you get cramps advill && a heating pad on the lower stumach usually does the trick.
3 ) do you have a sister or a good friend that you could talk to ? or aunt, grandma... exc.
4 ) i would start out with pads untill you get used to it then you can try tampons. i like tampons because you cant tell its there.
5 ) try looking up things on google. like pads and tampons so you can see exactly how to use them. also you can look up periods so you can know wht to be expecting. like the one person said beinggirl.com is a great site to learn about everything.
6 ) if you dont have pads or anything at the moment use toliet paper untill you can get something.
7 ) BATHE alot. now that you have your period you need to make sure that everything is clean or it can cause problems. also that means you need to change your pads or tampons alot especially if you have a heavy flow.
like i said just research online about some things and you can learn all about it. good lcuk =]

Oh love, what a hard place to be in.
Just chill for a sec, and welcome to womanhood ^_-
Go get yourself some pads (you probably don't want to start with tampons right away). Get the thinnest and most cloth-like ones that you can, that way it'll feel like underwear.
There are lots of things that go with a period (bloating, ramping, moodiness, headaches, etc). Not everyone gets these, but most women will have them at some point or another, and they're just natural and will pass.
Your period should last from 3 - 7 days. It may feel like an eternity, but don't worry, just chart it out on a calendar to get an idea of your body's cycle.
Cheers

Congratulations ! I too was raised by my father. I had to start w/ a box of sample pads that were delieverd to our house. I do recommend pads for you. I didn't start using tampons till I was in 9th grade. Have you considered talking to your friends mom? That is what I did. I finally had to cave in and tell my father. He is an adult male and understands the natural process of becoming a woman. This was a little scary for me b/c I was the first out of all my friends to start her period. Try using always thin maxi-pads.
keep in mind... your dad may be nervous about this also. You'll be fine .. I promise. In the end it worked out for me and that was 20 yrs ago.

Well I was 10 years old when i started and the best pads i got were stayfree. Then when I was able to use tampons i started using playtex gentle glide (plastic) and tampax pearls are the best. hopefully i helped a little bit. =] But if you start getting cramps in the lower part of your stomach take a tylenol. it will help the pain or a heating pad.

Try avoiding tampons cause they can get bad. Stick to pads and you will be fine. Only use tampons when your going to go swimming or something. Oh , and stay warm and drink plenty of water ..it helps alot!!
Hope i helped

i can't tell you whether to get pads or tampons or how much strength they should hold because i don't know if your period is heavy or light. you can go to CVS,Duane Reade, Wallgreens and ask a worker there to help you or you can even call up your doctor and ask. i bet you will get better answers from them than us yahooers

Go down to the closest shop and buy what ever pads they have (pads are better to start with)
But next time you see your dad tell him he will understand.
Good Luck
