Sorry, but your turtle won't live very long kept like that. He needs a basking spot (a place to get totally out of the water), a heat lamp with correct temps, a UVB bulb made for reptiles, a water heater, a water filter, frequent water changes, NO pebbles on the bottom, and a large tank (at least 10 gallons for every 1 inch of shell length). You need to read this website completely, make a list of necessary items, then go to the pet store and buy a whole new setup for your turtle.

OK...
You need a:
15 gallon tank or more (They grow up to be big!)
Lighting
Aquatic Turtle food (Duh!)
Filter (A must! Turtles are very messy!)
A dock (Well, optional, but your turtle would really appreciate the rest, and a place to sun-bathe and shed their skin.)
Water Heater
Water Thermometer
Large Pebbles for bottom... Make sure they are big enough so that the turtle can't swallow it!!!
Aquatic Plants (Again, optional. But try to buy some green Anacharis Water plant for your turtle to munch on once in a while.)
Hmm... I think that is it. Now for your questions!
"Does the turtle need any light?" Yes, he/she does. You have to buy this special bulb at the pet store. It is the only one he/she NEEDS. Your turtle needs this special light to help shed its skin.
"Does it need some stuff inside it?" Yes. A water thermometer, a water heater, large pebbles, a water plant for it to munch on, and a dock for it to bask on.
"Is a fish bowl OK for a turtle?" Hmm... Well, only for a little while, and you have to clean it every other day! But you WILL HAVE TO BUY A TANK EVENTUALLY!!! Turtles need the space to grow.
"What do l feed it?" Ask your Vet and Pet Store person. I fed mine CRUSHED turtle food that I bought from the store. I also know that baby turtles like to eat ripped up small pieces of salad. They are also carnivorous as babies, so ask your Vet about its diet. :)
Well, I hope I helped, and Good Luck with your new turtle!!!
(P.S. Make sure you have enough money to own a turlte! I know they can be expensive! But this is proper care... :)
FROM EXPIRIENCE ~ Owner of a Red-Eared Slider, from a baby to now!!!
Oh, and make sure you have your turtle checked, to make sure he/she dosn't have salmonella!!! (1 of mine died from it. :(
Well, Bye!!!
AND MAKE SURE THAT YOUR TANK IS ALWAYS FILLED UP HALF-WAY OR MORE!!! THESE ARE "WATER" TURTLES!!!
Thank You!!! :)

Hmm..here is the problem. You got a turtle..and you did no prior research on this new pet before you bought it. Go to that site and figure your stuff out. next time research your pet before you buy it. Im sure you going to find out that little is going to cost a sh*t ton to care for.

Well, I would definitely keep it near water, but make sure it can rest itself or sun itself on something. Try asking your nearest pet shop for help, too.
