One site is no better than the other but I always check at least 3. I like Orbitz, Expedia, and Cheap Tickets. Generally, the prices are the same on each site so if you find a price you like online, call that hotel to see if the rates are better. Sometimes they are because the people who make the reservations have a bit of leverage when it comes to pricing. Be really polite & pleasant, and you can often get a deal. Also, if you find a price that you like, be prepared to book it right then. Rooms at a hotel can be gone in minutes! One more tip is to look on a Tuesday, Wednesday for the best deals. Good luck.

Chances are, you will get a better deal if you call the 800 numbers for the hotel chains or call the hotel directly.

When you use websites like Expedia, they say they are giving you such a good deal, but in my experience they are not. These websites have special rates with the hotels. What that means is if you book your room for $100 with Expedia, the hotel will only get like $40 of that and Expedia will keep the rest. Chances are you can call the hotel directly and talk them down in price some, depending on the city, hotel, and what events are going on at the time of your visit.

On top of that, I've also seen way too many mess ups with the reservations taken from these other websites. The hotel does not have to fix these mistakes. You have to take your complaints to the website that you made the reservation with. When you're trying to check into the hotel at midnight after a long drive or flight, that's not something that is easy to do!

I'd suggest that you still go to these websites and see what they are offering. But also call the hotels directly to see what rate they can offer you.

I think you get the best rates at the hotel websites directly, not by calling. I stay at the Tropicana when I go and once I make my reservation with them I watch the website like a hawk. Then if I see a rate lower than what I booked, I call and ask them to adjust the rate. The first time I ever went, I called them three times and ended up with an upgraded room for $45 a night and had a great view. Now that I have stayed there and joined there players club (and I am not a big gambler by any means), I get postcards in the mail with great rates, even lower than is on their website. And I am staying on the strip!

Do you plan to gamble? If you do...

Call the hotel you want to stay at, and ask to speak to a Casino Host. Tell the Host that you are coming, and that you would like the "Casino Rate", if that is possible.

The Host may be able to book your room at Casino Rate (which is cheaper than the Rack Rate) right then. But if you've never been to that hotel or the Host doesn't know you, you should as him/her to book the room anyway and ask how to get in touch with them once you arrive.

When you arrive at your hotel, join the hotel's Player's Club (free!) and get the plastic card they will give you. Then contact the Host.

Introduce yourself, and BE POLITE!!! Being nice to someone goes a long way!

The next step is to play in the casino. If you are playing slots, insert your card into the card reader on the slot machine. If you are playing a table game, ask the dealer to rate you. All this info goes on your card.

When it comes time to check out, call the Host and let him/her know that you are getting ready to check out. They will check the records, and if you have played enough, you'll get the Casino Rate then.

You may also get a "comp" (free meal, free gift) for playing a certain amount!

Are you or your family a a member of costco(the superstore warehouse)? Costco has the BEST Las Vegas deals around! Once you log in with your membership number and name search around for hotel deals and I bet you will find the best deal in comparison to all the online travel websites. I was searching myself today and I found flight and 3 nights stay for like 175-300 Also just FYI some of the cheapest hotels I have found searching teh net include, Sahara (loose slots, great buffet, nascar based) Stratosphere (fun rides) Circus Circus (used to be cool, now bit ghetto but still its fine for the price) You can also try and book a room downtown (The strip is not downtown) . Downtown Vegas is awesome!!!! Everything is cheap down there, food, slots, tables, drinks, ect!! My mom and I like to gamble so we were thinking of staying at the Golden NUgget down town. The slots are loose and they have a a great pool...we will save money and it's only a taxi ride or rental car away from the Strip..... Have fun! Vegas Rocks!!!

you could try hotwire.com. You do not know where you will be staying until you book the room but you can get great deals.. I have never used it for Vegas but stayed at a Hyatt 1 block from Disneyland for 50 bucks. I would also check travelocity, orbitz, expedia. Check them all and look for the best rates...then check the hotels web site. If you do not care where you stay, I stayed at a place called Terrible's by the Hard Rock for very cheap. Also, The Orleans has good deals but it is slightly further from the strip.

The best is to buy directly from the hotels using "discount codes" they distribute, these codes give you discounted rates along with all kind of free bees and dinning credits and more...

Updates list of discount codes:
