Because the criteria states that it goes to the most outstanding player (regarless of record) he was clearly the most outstanding player in college football. He ran and threw for a combined 51 touchdowns and is the only player to ever run and throw for 20 tds. He has the highest completion percentage out of all the heisman winners. He has played well pretty much every week against top notch competition (UF is #6 in schedule strength). The other canditates all had notable bad games like McFadden running for only 43 yds on 17 carries against Auburn and having a midseason slump. Daniel struggled mightily against Oklahoma and unlike Tebow and McFadden hasn't play a lot of tough opponents. Brennen has had an outstanding year, but missed a few games due to injuries + he played a cupcake schedule the entire season. When your toughest game is against Washington it doesn't say very much.
to solomon: you're an idiot. Competition does matter. Hawaii was lucky to pull out wins against Washington and an awful San Jose St. team. Florida could easily beat 3/4 of the teams on Hawaii's schedule with their backups.
But you don't have to listen to me, just wait until the 1st game of next season when Hawaii plays Florida.

I agree that Tebow SHOULD NOT have won the award. I also agree that you could make a case for Brennan, but you could also make a case just as easily for a guy like:
-Dennis Dixon(Best QB this year in my opinion)
-Graham Harrell(put up better passing #'s than ANYONE in college football this year)
As far as RB's go, D-Mac was the best, no doubt about it. But Kevin Smith gave him pretty good competition.

colt had good stats best career stats that tebow wont match however once again the heisman went to another crappy player that dont deserve it
if any player in the NCAA should have gotten it is the running back from UCF Kevin Smith 180 yards from barry sanders single season rushing record but since the BCS controls all of college football now it had to go to a bcs school...
Colt got screwed twice by the bcs no award and no championship game even though he lead his team to the only unbeaten record in D-1 football
edit---to those who say tebow had a better year how many losses did his team have and again who had the only undefeated team in d-1 ball?

To all you bitches who hate on colt brennan!!!! He was the most outstanding player in college football, period!!! what more should he have to do? is it his fault that Michigan pulled out to play them, no!! you can only play the schedule that's in front of you. he shouldn't be condemned because of his performance. and as for the games he missed, he started the games but sat them out because the games was already in hand...thanks to him giving his team 4 or 5 TD leads. Tebow only won it because ESPN kept reving the hype machine for him. but i am glad the Colt didn't win it, because of the jinx. Good luck next year Tebow, i guess you and the rest of the Gators DO deserve that unfortunate Trophy!!!

rikirailrd, Tebow isn't three years removed from high school yet!!!!!!
And Brennan didn't win because he played in a conference that was perceived to be weak.
