Is this simply a case of an (influential) BLACK WOMAN
trying to get a BROTHA' elected President?

When she says Obama is, "the man I believe has a new vision for America." isn't she really saying, "we black people now have the opportunity to get a black man into the White House."?
and disregards the fact that Obama has absolutely NO experience whatsoever that qualifies him for the Presidency?

I believe the latter is more correct. I am not a feminist, although I believe women are great, I am not raciest, nor do I believe in affirmative action (it puts down whites ((females and males)) But I was interested in Obama and considering "going for him" until he would NOT say the Pledge of Allegiance. Thats just disrespectful. I come from a military family and I, myself am in the military so this is all important to me. Hillary Clinton is another that I am NOT FOR. If she's elected President, I will be moving to Canada or Mexico!! But in respect to all people, I will vote for a woman, or a person from another race, as soon as one that is qualified and has good intentions runs! (ps why does obama NEVER talk about the white side of his family??? interesting)

I think Oprah is backing Obama because he's black, and the fact that she agrees with the way he says he'll run the country is second. Remember, Oprah won't have anything to do with Condi Rice, who is the most powerful woman in the country and who is black. The reason is because Oprah disagrees with Ms. Rice's political views and because Ms. Rice is better educated and more influential in the world than Oprah is. Oprah would never be in the presence of someone whom she knows is above her. And I will add this, I don't think Oprah is black anymore. She's an overrated, overexposed, self-important rich lady who was born and raised in America and became a billionaire in the country she was born in, but somehow she thinks that Africa is her home and Nelson Mandela is her relative. Even if I loved Obama, I wouldn't vote for him because Oprah is endorsing him. No way is Hollywood or television going to influence how I think or act, and I think Obama is making a huge mistake by campaigning with her. He's a schmuck.

I really dont think Oprah put her backing behind Obama based soley on his being black although i do believe that is a small part of it. Privately she like many members of the media loath and fear the Clintons but in public they wear a mask of feigned support. Oprah has "embaced" Obama as a slap in the face of Hilary because Obama is a safe bet. Hilary cannot attack her for it since if Hilary does the "race" card comes into play. Its a smart intelligent and very calculating move by Miss Winfrey.

No, but I'm sure Oprah really believes SHE can lead America! She's probably just waiting for the chance to knock him down a flight of stairs so she can deliver the spare campaign speech she miraculously has in her purse. That woman will not be happy until she rules the world.

I wondered the same thing especially since she has always said she stays out of politics, at least publically. I am sure if he were white she would not support him as strongly. What about Hillary, doesn't she want a woman in the White House?

WOW! I am really amazed at some of these closed minded comments on this post. I agree with boltthrower63-- what qualifications does George W. Bush have and even if he does have more,, he is definitely not the sharpest tool in the shed. I don't think that you HAVE to be black to want to vote for Obama. My mother is an intelligent woman who is white and lives in predominantly white community and stated that she would vote for Obama. Have any of you ever taken the time to sit down and listen to him? research him? or are you just shocked that a black man can make it this far in the election process?

Don't you feel that Oprah is promoting him possibly because she believes in what he is saying????

I did a questionaire online asking about my political views and when finished it gave me the % of my views and matched them with the presidential candidates. Obama was one of my highest %'s of a match. Open your eyes people...or maybe should I say close your eyes if race is an issue to you and LISTEN to the candidates. You may still not believe in Obama but do it because you don't believe in his views and stance as opposed to the fact that you don't believe in his color or race.

I don't think anybody can answer this except Oprah herself. Is she not a woman before she is a BLACK woman, and if so, wouldn't she support Hillary?

I think many people have been confused by her decision. But obviously she believes that he has what it takes.

Either way, I think that celebrity endorsements of campaigns should not matter. Too bad we live in a society where it does.

Barack Obama has my vote. Saying he doesnt have enough experience is just a reason for some of you white people not to vote for him. Even if he did have experience, you all would find a different reason not to vote for him. I hope all the black people come together and vote for him.

Heck with oprah, never seen the show, could care less. She's backing him cause he's black and it's that simple.
