Why do houses in LasVegas have no basements?

It probably has more to do with the weather and the type of terrain than anything else. The frost line for Las Vegas is almost non-existent. That means that you don't have to dig the footers very deep for the house so you don't have to excavate much soil to lay the foundation as compared to other parts of the country. Also, it's flat for the most part so you don't have many hills to deal with.

Since you have to dig-out a much more substantial foundations in cold weather climates, you might as well put that space to use and use it as a basement. If you really wanted a basement you could probably have a house built with one but given a choice, builders will do what is most cost effective which means no basements in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas Homes With Basements

The main reason is that most people don't want them. The weather is generally warm enough year round, basements cost more to build because you have to excavate the soil. There is no reason not to have one though except for cost. There is not the problem we have here in Ok. with the clay soil. A basement would provide a cool space in Summer though. All of the hotels there have basements, multiple levels actually because they have to dig for the foundation anyway.

Land is so readily available, that you can stick frame cheaper than digging down thru the rock.
