That moment passed and now you have your memory of that moment. In fact, everything happening is merely the faculty of your memory. You have no way of experiencing THIS moment in time and space with out capturing it and using your knowledge/memory to tell you what it is.
How would knowing WHY help you get any closer to that moment? If you can remember exactly what you look like you will be one step closer to seeing this moment but I'll bet that when you look in the mirror, what you see isn't quite what you were imagining. Knowing why will not bring those two things together. That's the nature of why. It's useless.

Eternity. If you are not here and not down at the mall, then where are you? The moment never changes. we can reflect on the past through our limitations to do so and expect future events to the best of our abilities. But we are eternally here and now.

we are in this time and place right now because we will be able to serve a larger purpose or help out in some way without ever being conscious that we are helping or changing anything at all. if we were not right here right now, everything everywhere would be so much different it is impossible to imagine

Either you are a very deep thinker or you're a diligent student. ;)
I cannot give you a definite answer to this. However, I do believe that we are all born with a responsibility to others to be our best selves. These "others" I refer to are not just your friends and family but people you do not even know...be kind, be charitable, take the chance to educate and better yourself so that you may be a better you and of better service to all you touch.
If you have the gift of life you might as well take full use of it, regardless of whether or not there is an afterlife waiting for you.

Not easy to be in two places at once.
"Climb the Highest Mountain," Mark Prophet,
"Watch Your Dreams," Ann Ree Colton,
"Expecting Adam," Martha Beck,
"The Reincarnation of Edgar Cayce?", Free and Wilcock, http://www.divinecosmos.com
