I had a cerclage yesterday. My OB discovered that my cervix was not holding the weight of my baby so well. It was scary at first to hear this being my first pregnancy and all. I'm scared to even move now. I just wanted to know if bedrest is really what it says. I'm 26 weeks and hope my baby boy will stay in there a little longer.

Normally, chair rest would be bed rest as well. But in your case, you want to put as little pressure on your cervix as possible. Sitting upright would put a substantial amount of weight on your struggling cervix. I would lay down most of the time and only get up to eat and use the bathroom.

Good luck with everything!

Bedrest means little to no activity. Sitting in a chair for a short period of time would be fine, it is mainly about moving around too much.

You REALLY need to get clarified by your doctor what exactly you can and can't do, and for how long these restrictions will last. The health of your baby depends on YOU.

IMO if I'm to be on bed rest, I would not get out of bed unless I had to use the bathroom or had to get something to eat.
