People hate on rap because they don't understand it. They don't realize all of the different elements involved in it. They take one very small part of it and they use it to represent the whole thing. Also a lot of rock fans don't want to understand it. They would rather go on hatin then to try to learn about what hip hop is all about. But as they say: To be great is to be misunderstood.

I'll say what I said before, and what I heard from a man in a video: I love hip-hop. Hip-hop is a great thing, but the mainstream has corrupted its image. Hip-hop started as a way of celebrating life. It evolved into something that eventually made you mourn it. Hip-Hop/Rap is now used as a money maker for half-assed artists and greedy producers. I don't hate hip-hop itself, but I hate that the wrong image is being shown.

Stereotypes are promoted over the true African-American Image, sex is shown as something that sells. Violence is slowly starting to stray out of rap music, but replacing it is general stupidity within the lyrics, which speak of mostly nothing. Instead of making a lyrically rich song, a hot beat is accompanied by senseless drawl. As underground rappers and more experienced artists are pushed aside, "rappers" who happen to have a superstar image are pushed to the top, only to get their 20% from hip-hop sales they make, until their record label pushes them aside for the next good-looking rapper to walk through the door.

The state of the music industry today also has others judge hip-hop. With music becoming a commercialized product rather than an artful form of entertainment, people are now wondering how the overproduced, pop-made "hip-hop" is the top part of the mainstream. That's all I have to say on the matter:

I don't hate hip-hop. I just hate that the true hip-hop is buried.

I'm not a big fan of mainstream rap/hip-hop just because I find it pretty superficial on the whole and I feel that it's skewing a large number of people's perception of reality. Is it fun to dance to in a club? Yeah, but that's about it.

But to all of these people saying rap/hip-hop is nothing but bitches, drugs, and money then you're straight up morons. Listen to Murs, LoopTroop, Braintax, Immortal Technique, K'naan, or any other number of quality positive and forward thinking MCs and then make a statement that fricking stupid.

Generalizations can be made about any genre of music. I could just as easily say all metal is about death, or all pop music is about love in the rain, or all jazz is saxophones and raspy voices but that would obviously be wrong.

People talking about rap/hip-hop hasn't done anything since Biggie and Tupac are even more stupid. Simply because MTV hasn't spoon fed you change for the past 10 years doesn't mean it hasn't been happening.

for sure, people generalize and stereotype the music. lots of the rap on the radio is concentrated on "grimy" stuff, and that would desire to turn some people off. yet that's no longer all there is to rap. i comprehend there are Christian rappers and a pair men i comprehend used to accomplish a little sparkling rap. perhaps some people merely like music with a dash extra melody or music to it. individually, some rap i admire, some i do no longer. merely like another style of music, because of the fact I hear to quite often each little thing.

Why must you resort to insulting people and calling them names while trying to make the very same point in your situation? It's absurd that you would do that! You've dragged everything but the kitchen sink in here to justify your love of rap music. Take your own advice and STOP THE HATING!

Well, other people don't feel the same way...and I'm generally one of them! Yet, here you are, inviting me and all of us in to answer your question while you ask why any of us who dislike or hate rap music would want to come in there to comment. Then, when someone has a clear and honest answer to impart...here come the insults!

I don't hate you for liking rap music...I dislike rap because, in my opinion, it's as far from music as one can get. It tells a story and a lot of them are stories that are not very nice, pleasant nor are they, in any way, entertaining. Yet there are some raps songs and artists I love, but it has to be musical and not how many words can you fit into a sentence in 3.4 seconds! You can listen and love it all you want but please don't tell me I have no rhythm or I can't bounce whatever it is I want to bounce whenever I want to bounce it, just because I don't happen to like rap!

I've been through every phase of music since the beginning of Rock n' Roll until now, been in every New York Club that means anything and danced many a week-end away plus more...much more. But I guess I lost my dancing ability and my rhythm since I can't usually cannot stand rap...oh well! C'est la vie!

People these days feel very passionate about their opinions, and they express themselves by stating their extremely positive or extremely negative comments because they feel that they may be able to influence others.

People should stop the hating because we all have our own opinions and likes and dislikes and can't really expect that we will influence someone to stop listening to one form of music or the other just because they say they think it sounds awkward or dumb or rhythmicly challenged. I love all music, except i don't do bluegrass, and personally love listening to the occasional rap.

I agree with you that people should stop the hating, and that people who hate rap should not be in the rap forum if they are only going to say that it sucks....a waste of time on my opinion

My first response to this question was what this guy is stupid, And for the record i rap. So anyway as i read on and on i saw what people had to say. Somebody said it's no skill and named rappers like lil jon and soulja boy. And i have to say he is completely right. Todays rappers are horrific and i never ever lisen to the new stuff. Gots me thinking why do i like rap then? The rap i lisen to had meaning and signifagance. Rappers like Tupac,Biggy, Jay z,Black star all of them did it and did it well.

I think it's because rap music is forced on people against their will.
Some retard will carry around a 100-pound radio or cd-player and blast his choice in music to everyone within hearing range.
Or some other retard will put enough electronics in his automobile that he can play rap music at 130 decibles while driving down the street!
It's very intrusive, especially at the sound level it's played at.
I actually like rap but I can see why people don't like to have it jammed down their throat. I'd feel the same way if someone were playing Mozart and forcing everyone else to hear it.

Princess Helpful, you could use a spelling lesson =).

I just find the music very stupid. Get nothing out of it. And worse, everyone thinks that I WANT to hear it when i'm on the sidewalk. People crank it up, and frankly, I hate it.
