Good for you! Sewing is a lost art now days. Go to a fabric store and ask to see the pattern books. Ask the clerk to help you find a easy to sew pattern for a pillow or something like that. Most stores have people that are very helpful when it comes to beginners. If you dont have a sewing machine buy an inexpensive one. Ask the clerk to help you with a fabric choice and she can tell you how much you need. Buy some basic tools like scissors, thread, and pins. Then go home, clear off your kitchen table and have fun. Read the pattern instructions carefully and follow the steps. Don't worry, you will totally screw it up! LOL But you will learn in the process and the next project will be better. This is how I learned to sew when I was 12.

When I was very young my grandmother taught me how to sew..you can learn too! I would suggest visiting a senior citizen center and ask for help in learning. By doing this you can get the lessons you seek and also give another a way to feel respected for their knowledge and to feel needed. The tools you need are a needle/thread and a scrap of fabric and scissors and willingness to learn..and you can do it!

Ask someone if they will show you on their machine. Go to the fabric store and look through their patterns. Get one labeled "easy". On the back of the package it tells you what to buy for material. Then have fun! Make sure you give your friend a gift card to the fabric store for helping you.
