I just heard "Enter Sandman" in the car and I was thinking about how I've seen at least 3 local bands here in Rochester play that song, and that it must be a popular choice for the local band circuits.

Do you have any other examples of songs that you think are widely chosen to be covered by the undiscovered talent out there?

I don't hear many local bands playing covers, mostly it's original stuff. However, in different areas I've seen bar bands and they always seemed to play Brown Eyed Girl and Mustang Sally.

I saw The Rev HH in Rochester in October of '96. Damn good show. Otherwise that's all I know about it.

Edit: Yeah, I was driving a girl I was seeing back up to Syracuse from Utah (quite a trip). I enjoyed the area.

It really just depends on what genre(s) the cover band either likes or wants to be perceived as, or just finds to be fun to play from a musicianship point of view

I wouldn't automatically pander to bar patrons, you could also introduce them to obscure stuff that is actually good

I've notice that bands in my area tend to play:
Dirty Water (Boston Your My Home....)
Any of the big Aerosmith tunes
Blue Moon seems to be a big one

I would say most likely a Beatles song, not sure which ones though.

By the way, with your "R&P neighbors" question, I didnt know you lived in Rochester. I am going to be at RIT starting fall 08.
