U are absolutely right, even if religion did not exist, people would find reasons to do horrible things anyway. In fact we already have. And it has to do with one thing, ourselves. People have always put their needs and wants in front of others. Never showing compassion, never putting themselves in other peoples shoes. Religion is the #1 culprit of this. People take something like god, something that represents goodness. And they turn it into their personal imaginary friend. "My god agrees with me, my god is for me, my god punishes those that disagree with me." The key word here is ME! In the end they just end up worshiping themselves. People that embrace the ideas of peace and goodness and leave them as they are have defeated themselves. Many who practice religion have unfortunately taken those same ideas and corrupted them to fit their needs and wants. So maybe religion can be good if people take it for what it is.

I Like your sarcasm !
To start, religions were thought up by people, with a higher
intelligence level, to help disadvantaged/non-intelligent, or
simple minded, deal with accordance's, that could not be explained, i.e.; Volcanoes, Earthquakes, Floods etc.
It was a way to control fear, by conjuring up the GOOD vs
EVIL concept, was a way of keeping these people under control. A little research and an open mind, and you might
even believe that UFO's do exist. But there goes that fear factor again. How would the average working man, raised
on beliefs, forced upon him, react to a visitation from a "SPACE MAN" ? Orwellian ?
So the ones that don't look like us, talk like us, or have the same belief's,(as the bible recounts) must Die !
THIS IS MANKIND. It's in our gene's. Maybe, these visitors
are the ones that planted our seed's, and are just checking on our progress ?
Maybe religion is nature's way of population control ?

A knife is a valuable tool that humans use to prepare food. If a person uses that knife to kill someone, who is at fault, the murderer or the knife? Of course, it is the murderer. That person made a choice to misuse a valuable tool. The Christian religion is a tool of hope. Throughout the Bible, God shows that He is a just God, and a loving God. God gave us basic instructions for life on Earth. Nowhere in there are Christians ordered to go forth and kill. So if a person chooses to justify his sinful ways by misusing the Bible, it is not the Bible that is at fault, it is the person. The Bible is not a mechanism of control, but one of hope. It is a guide to show us better ways to behave toward one another. These better ways are counterintuitive. Humans are generally quite selfish beings. We do what we want to do, and we don't thnk about if and how our actions affect others. The Christian religion encourages us to go beyond our selfish ways and consider others before outselves. It encourages us to love one another, and use that love to encourage each other and hold each other up in tough times. How is this deceit?

Don't be so cynical. I'm not implying that religion is the root of all evil or anything of that sort but it's undeniable that it's one of the major reasons why people were and are killed. Religion is not the basis or source of morality, although some people would disagree. Religion, IMO, is nothing more than an extension, a representation, of man's nature -- a tool.

All belief is self deception. It is the function of the 'you' to create these beliefs in order to keep the 'living thing' at bay. Belief is for society and culture. Replace the word religion with science or success or fame.
They are all ridiculous attempts to gain control over something that can not be controlled or known. Get over the names. They are all the same.

I agree that religion can be used as a control mechanism. However, some people just don't know what they don't know. God is Love is more than a cliche, it's an experience.

It is the reason we fight? religioin alone?
we aint blastin eachother just cuz we only got different religous beliefs
its definitley a factor... we in the west grew up in a different culture ... many envy us for the power and wealth of america and hate us before they know us
NOW WHAT IS THAT FUELED BY
ignorance, hate, envy, idealism, etc
so if a new kid comes to your school and u hear allll these rumors about him u prejudge him, and never give him a chance, and plan to beat him up because he got money and is fortunate ITS BECAUSE OF RELIGION NOW??
remember after we got rid of Sadom they loved us because they felt free.........I dont agree with Bush all the way but I do agree with freedom
they are just ignorant to modernization and cannot accept it

I agree. Religion I think overall is a good thing. But you get these fanatics who think they know it all and push their beliefs on others. People need to respect them self first and then they can respect others .

Just because a gun has been used to kill many people easily, that doesn't make a gun itself evil. It's just that people choose to use it for bad purposes.
Religion is like that. It is not bad in itself, just that some people take it to the extreme trying to impose their religion on others.

There is a great scale of many differences for human comprehension, philosophical, spiritual growth and atheists and theologians may find their selves on equal ground on any place in that scale. But, I think you may find an agnostic on the very top.
The Will is positive, the Judgment is negative.
