The basis of freedom of speech had more to do with a free press and the right of people to assemble in protest, etc. Many other issues such as you are talking about have more to do with irresponsible use of free speech and a lack of respect for others..

This is such a great topic. You can not put limitations on Freedom of Speech, otherwise you would not be free.
I do believe that people have gone overboard protecting this right. I have to say, I am not a very religious person. However I also believe that if you have nothing nice to say about a person then it should not be said. Easier, way easier said then done, because I am just as guilty as anyone. But some go over-board, some say and do things that are very uncalled for.
I think people should think about how they would feel if these things were said and done to them. If they would freely accept this same slander, then they are not living.

Freedom of speech applies to speech, meaning words. Pictures aren't protected by this. Someone could be sued for slander if what they say about someone causes them character issues or defames them. There should be a limit to how much freedom is allow when it is posted for the world to see

Freedom of speech is a right that protects one from unreasonable restiction by the government. Defamation and infringement of privacy issues may provide legal redress.

If the information is true then it is legal. Opinions are legal free speech. I wonder though why celebrities cannot get orders of protection or the like against the papparrazi

Actually, the Founding fathers intended for the individual to have the right to criticize their government without fear of punishment, not for anyone to do anything they want.

If it is offensive, and not based by facts, you can sue for defamation of character.
