The Heisman is supposed to be given to the best "PLAYER" in college football. But, every year it's given to a QB,RB,or WR. I've never heard of it given to a LB, DT,DB,OL,K,or P. So, should it be given to the best back in college football rather than the best player?

Would seem like a good idea, wouldn't it?
After all, in the NFL, you can only seemingly win the MVP if you are a QB or RB...so it just trickles down.
They tend to share the love with the awards in college though, so maybe the people who vote for the Heisman think that they don't have to pay any attention to players just as deserving in other positions...

The QB usually always IS the best player on the team.
Who was the better player, the guy that completed 300 passes and threw for 25 TD's, or the guy that made 70 or 80 tackles and 3 INT's? Exactly.

Well, a WR is not a back, but I generally agree...It is a popularity contest...not an indication of the best player in the country...It is a pointless award outside of the media...

Charles Woodson of Michigan won it in 98'.and he was a defensive back..
He is the only defensive player to win it.. The rest are QBs, running backs, and recievers..
