I think I worded this question badly. What I mean is that for those people who want a leader who believes in G-d, what does it matter what religion they are?

Its good that the candidate believes in God, but why. A poltician is a politician is a politician. They lie, they are evasive on senitive questions that they have to take a stand on.....'Ok mr Candidate what is a your stand on the colour Orange?"... their reply....."well mr hou... I think that we should consider the envirnment... how about those Texans?>>>>", danmed just answer the question....... How many times have we seen during the debates when given a question on something controversial, the candidates can talk over their alooted time and never once even touch the subject that the question was about.
Why does it matter if a candidate believes in God? once they get to D.C., they all act the same or dumber, look at Bush. He is a God fearing , praying man so he says, but makes some of the dummest decisions. War, energy (well he is the best friend of big oil, "him and DICK"). and giving a pardon to his best friends, A person's convection and belief usually take a back seat to politics. Lying is a job requirement in DC and a belief in GOD makes no difference. They all look out for number one, themsleves. So when a presidential candidate come to the podium and says that he beleives in God, just take that with a grain of salt...Remember, there is no such thing as honesty and charactor. So when you are deciding which person to cast your ballot for, just remember that what hey say today will be forgotten once they shake the next persons hand.......

If people paid a little more attention to the Constitution of the United States and realized that it seperates Church from State then the future President of the USA, Mitt Romney, religion would not be contested.

I don't care if the president believes in GOD. S/he could believe in the Flying Spaghetti Monster for all I care - all I care about is, will s/he do the job right?

Edit: You didn't phrase your question badly, I got it the first time. Not only do I think the person's religion doesn't matter, I would vote for a president who was an ATHEIST or AGNOSTIC as long as I believed that s/he had my stances on the issues of the day.

It should not matter, but since many people use their religion to divide themselves from other humans its just how it works out.
Why would the president have to believe in god? It is not a requirement of the constitution.

If the precepts of a candidate's religion are blatantly racist, like Mormonism, then a candidate should be judged on their adherence to that religion, otherwise it should never be brought up.

Why do they have to believe in God?

Why do you type G-D? Do you think He's going to slap you or something?
