I have an outdated version of Mcafee on my Comp. I was planning on getting Avast but I don't want to delete McAfee off my computer. I was wondering if they'd conflict with eachother if I have them both. A few said they would, but a couple said they did the same or similar thing and it still worked fine.

Help!

I agree with the general consensus that they would conflict.
Also I can't see the point of keeping McAfee installed when it's outdated. Without continuous updates it's virtually useless.

Anytime you install more than one antivirus they will conflict and cause neither to work right. The proper procedure is to go thru the add/remove programs process and reboot and then check that all things related to the program are removed before installing something else.

I would strongly suggest updating your copy of mcafee and not going for a freeware solution. Simply look at all of the people using freeware having problems on this board.

Also, as to your comment on "what people said"... you should really think twice about asking strangers on a web board for advice... most of the people on here are not professionals and the advice is often extremely poor and biased.

Good Luck

The use of 2 or more anti-virus programs at the same time can cause major conflicts. The 2 scanning engines will fight each other to scan every file that you read, write or execute which can cause a major computer slowdown. For the same reason, using 2 A-Vs can cause you to have less protection from the various malware, not more.

(Using an anti-spyware and a firewall with an anti-virus is good, however and is recommended)

Keeping an outdated, un-updateable anti-virus on your computer is about as useful as boobs on a bull!

Good luck.

Yes, any time you run two antivirus or install two antivirus programs you are going to have serious conflict with your system.
Any antivirus will conflict with another antivirus and will cause neither to work properly.
If you are going to install a different solution then you MUST completely uninstall the other and reboot before installing the other.
