This is a very subjective question.

The 100: A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History
Revised and Updated for the Nineties
by Michael H. Hart
The website has links to bios of the people on the list.
http://www.dlmark.net/hundred.htm
This is Mr. Hart's top 10:
• Muhammad
• Isaac Newton
• Jesus Christ
• Buddha
• Confucius
• St. Paul
• Ts'ai Lun
• Johann Gutenberg
• Christopher Columbus
• Albert Einstein

Another site had a different list.
This ratings list of Most Influential People in World History was created and contributed by RateItAll user Redoedo, using RateItAll's WebLister tool.
Again, there is a link to a bio.
http://www.rateitall.com/t-1283-most-influential-people-in-world-history.aspx
1. Muhammad
2..Jesus Christ
3..Moses
4..Abraham Lincoln
5..Isaac Newton
6. Alexander Graham Bell
7. Franklin D. Roosevelt
8. Albert Einstein
9. Martin Luther
10.George Washington

NOTE: Muhammad is chosen over Jesus or Moses despite the fact that Islam was not the largest religion and that it was from a distant part of the world from where he lived. Muhammad was successful in both the religious and political realms. His Muhammad's role in the development of Islam is far more influential than Jesus's collaboration in the development of Christianity (which was really St. Paul).

I think you need to visit these sites and maybe others that you find on Google by searching for "influentional people in history", or "Important people in world history", etc., read up on the people and use your own judgement.

Good luck!
