Why not? For two reasons:
1) Many candidates have their own celebrity endorsements. Huckabee has Chuck Norris. Hill has Bill and Barbara.
2) What's wrong with finding new ways to get people to pay attention to Politics? Whatever it takes to get people engaged and to get to the polls is fine with me...as long as they make informed decisions.

I understand your point, but consider the following:
1). I think it is somewhat insulting to Oprah to claim that he is using her as a campaign tool. She volunteered to help him out, which she is well within her rights to do and he accepted her offer. Free country.
2). While it is true that a lot of uninformed jackasses could end up voting for Obama solely because he is endorsed by Oprah, so what? The fact is, these people who are basing their votes on celebrity endorsements would probably not do their homework anyway if Oprah wasn't backing Obama up and would vote for some other candidate for a totally different stupid reason. Sadly, there is no cure for stupid if the patient isn't interested in visiting the doctor.

Oprah is not God, she is a person like everyone else if she feels that Obama is the right canidate for the presidency. Then that's her right to use her celebrity to back him. Other celebs backs their favorite, why is it different for her ? I'm African American and I love Oprah and Obama . But, I'm voting for Hillary Rodham Clinton . People don't give women and minorities enough credit. We have minds of our own, were not that easily swayed. Just because your black doesn't mean your giving Obama a vote !!!

It's just as fair as Huckabee using Chuck Norris, Hillary using Bill, Barbara Steisand and Mary Steenburgen, Romney using the Osmonds, Giuliani using Pat Robertson, etc. You get my drift. Celebrities have just as much right to support the candidate of their choice. They are American citizens as well. By the way, George Clooney and Steven Spielburg and numerous other celebrities support Obama. A lot of celebrities are activists for good causes. Of course it's fair. And if what you are implying were true, she would have supported Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton and she did not. So there goes your theory.

Obama isn't using Oprah as a "campaign tool", Oprah is endorsing Obama... he didn't go to her. I think this makes some of the Hillary supporters mad because they think it will influence Oprah's main audience - women.

She can do what she wants. But I think if she were as fair as she wants to believe herself to be, then she wouldn't do it for exactly the reason you said. There are people who watch her show who don't get informed about the issues in politics one bit. She's going to show the positive about Obama and negative about the other candidates and they'll believe her.
And Oprah herself is not politically savvy. She had a show once criticizing the current administration and the war and she claimed to be complete unbiased as to Democrat or Republican (like she said in her speech today that she has voted both ways), but she invited to this show as the SOLE information on the subject, she said, a NEUTRAL journalist. That "Neurtal" journalist was from the New York Times.
She was later criticized for it and she didn't even KNOW that the New York Times leans so far left. That's how political savvy she is. And she presented a very biased show on that subject.

yes it's fair. that's my opinion (as well as the opinion of the people who wrote the constitution). politicians have been getting celebrity endorsements for years, like over 100 years.

Do you think it's fair for Hillary to use Bill? Or for Mike Huckabee to use Chuck Norris?
All's fair when it comes to celebrity endorsements.

That is what freedom is about.
He can get endorsements and help from who he wants.
Oprah is free to support who she wants and how she wants.
Both must be within FEC limits.
