Describe the scarlet letter that Hester makes? What makes the letter so extraordinary? What is the point of Hester making such a letter? What is Hawthorne's purpose?

I know it is before chapter 8 but i cant get the right answer

It was embroidered onto her chest with gold and scarlet, very fancy. The reason it was important was because having the letter A on your chest is a mark of adultry and she wears it almost like an example of courage and owning up to her mistakes. She also wears it because she's proud of what came of it, her daughter pearl. Hawthorn's purpose is reveal the kind of character Hester is. She is someone who doesn't blame others and is honest.

I just finished reading that book in English class. Basically, the letter "A" represents Hester's sin of adultery. She is forced to wear that letter for the society to know that she's a sinner and during the Puritan times, religion was very important.
