First of all, Karakoff did not place the name in the Goblet. Barty Crouches' son (a death eater, and disguised with Pollyjuice Potion -- as both Karafoff and Mad Eye Moody) did so.
But think about it: Why did he shut the door behind him? Because, he did not want anyone to see him putting Harry's name is the Goblet. The Triwizard Tournament was meant for only school-aged witches and wizards (above the age of 17, given the rise of Voldemort). It would have been strange for a professor to be seen placing a name in the Goblet.

No, Igor Karkaroff did not put Harry's name into the Goblet of Fire. If you a) saw the ENTIRE movie or b) read the book, you will recall the scene between Harry and "Mad-Eye Moody" in which Harry says "It was you. You put my name in the Goblet of Fire!" and Moody, who turns out to be Bartemius Crouch, Jr., confirms his accusation to be true. It was meant to be a scene of suspicion so that the viewers would be able to predict who places Harry's name in the Goblet. However, he is suspected because he is a Death Eater, as mentioned in the talk with Sirius and Harry.

Barty Crouch Jr. posing as Mad Eye Moody under the effects of Pollyjuice potion put Harry's name in the goblet. He attacked Moody before the start of the school year and held him hostage at the bottom of a magic trunk so he could continue to get hair from Moody to make enough Polly Juice potion to continue to impersonate Moody. At the end when he is revealed for who he truly is he confesses to it all.

No moody put harry's name in da goblet. "Moody" was actually Barty Crouch's son. The real moody was held prisoner by the fake moody. I think that Karkaroff went into dat room 2 try and confund da goblet so dat Krum's name would come out or something lyke dat.

There was a Death Eater (Barty Crouch the 2nd) who was using Polyjuice Potion to disguise himself as Moody, and he put Harry's name in the Goblet.

No he didn't, I do not know what he did but they are creating suspicion. If you remember that when harry is in the room with professor Moody he says " Do you think that you would have gotten in this competition without me putting you name in the goblet?" At least I think that's what he said. But it was Moody.
