I've never done it, mainly because the scent lingers, and it's very strong to a small animal's sense of smell.

I use Dawn soap and scrub the balls with a sponge. It does the job, and has little to no ''overpowering'' scent that could upset the hamster's respiratory system.

no, because the fumes and residue left will mix with the next round of peeing and could cause a chemical reaction. To be on the safe side wash with really hot water and detergent. You may even let the ball soak in the sink for a while and then clean it. Make sure you completely dry the ball with a soft cloth.

Mix a combination of a small amount of dish soap and some white vinegar together in a small tub of water.
Do not place in the kitchen sink.
Let the ball soak for about 15 minutes and all the urine residue should be gone. Bleach is not necessary.
Clean the sink well when finished with whatever your Mom provides.

No, bleach is a bad idea. If you don't rinse well it can be very harmful for your hammy.
The safest, and most effective(and cheapest!) cleaner/odour eater is vinegar. I use 1/2 vinegar, 1/2 water to clean all of my hamsters toys and cage.
Just be sure to leave the ball for 15 minutes, so the vinegar odour can dissipate.

Yes, I've done that. I was worried about the smell so I also washed it well with dish soap after and rinsed very well.

The vinegar and hot water answer would work well too.

No, that's harmful and too strong. The after scent will burn his lungs and the residue will burn his little feet.
Use baking soda, hot water and vinegar. Or boil it in a pot of boiling water.
