Abuelama: You reminded me of our record player with a rack next to it and a bunch of records. Thanks for that reminder.

Ice on the walls so the blankets actually froze to them. 3 to a bed which helped us stay warm. And only a hole in the floor with a vent cover over it for the heat to come up and where we spied on mom and dad when they had company over to play cards. As if we could sleep with all that noise and cigarette smoke.

I had so many bedrooms during that period, being that we were a military family. So I'll pick my bedroom when living in the dorm in high school in France.

Five military cots....for each of us that roomed together in our 'bay'. Mine was not a bunk, two were, and two others were singles also.

I had a metal locker to the right of my bed which held what little clothes would fit into it...and it also served as home away from home for the field mice that kept invading the dorm! LOL

Banks of windows across that faced out onto the street. Our dorm was a converted 'tempo' barracks...for those of you that don't know what tempo means, many government buildings back then were built as temporary structures...easy to dismantle when the time came.

Not the Taj Mahal but one of the happiest times of my life! :-)

It was right at the entrance to the bay and made up GI style so a coin would bounce on it! and we had inspection every a.m.! lol

Over my bed were cut out letters that said "Chances Are" with an album cover of Johnny Mathis. I had a small nite table and on it was a frame with a four leaf clover my boyfriend found for me.

The bed, dresser and chest of drawers. I can still see the double windows that opened up like doors. I used to go out on the roof and tan in the summer. There was a ( we called it a register, I'm not sure what others call it). It was like a grill in the floor and the heat from the furnace came upthrough it. I used to wobble over, half asleep in the mornings in the cold of winter, and sit on it and doze back off until my Dad would yell up the stairs to get up. I can see my little radio sitting on my dresser. I used to sneak and listen to the blues and all of that old music while I did my homework. My parents didn't like it.
Edit: Good question! Look at all of those stars Wickwire.

I was away at camp for a week and when I got home, my mother had totally redone the room I shared with my sister. She had painted it blue (my favorite color then) and made little dressing tables on either side of our double bed. They were made from plywood covered with gold and white marble patterned Marlite leftover from putting in a shower wall, and had white eyelet ruffles attached to the edges. Each had a mirror above it. There was a new blue bedspread. This was pretty amazing to me, because our family had very little money, and my mother was always so busy with six kids, I was overwhelmed that she would do that for me.

The desk I had to do my homework on. The view from my window, there was a round bushed tree with a street light behind it, I used to sit and look at it, when my bedroom light was out. Somehow I knew that was going to be my life, going through a lot of branches to get to the light in the centre.! Weird. How did I know that!
And the posters of all the singers. Pat Boone, Elvis come to mind first.

It is funny that you ask this question. Since I moved back home to help take care of my parents, live in a 8 X 30 travel trailer. It is parked about 40' from by old bedroom window. I can all but see inside of my room from here.

But thanks to you through memory I can see the whole bedroom. It has blue carpet, rot iron bed frame, bed spread and curtains to match the carpet. A split level dresser with mirror, and my chest of draws in it. Some day I will actually go back in that room again.

We lived in a two bedroom flat and I had 6 brothers.
I had to share a bedroom with 3 of my brothers there was a bunk bead for two of my bothers. and a pair of twin beds for me and another brother. there was a night stand between the two twin beds and one dresser, that we all shared. But I did get the top of the dresser all for myself. Thats all that would fit in the room. Later my olderst brother, slept on the couch and later he just threw a mattress on the dining room floor and slept there. And much later, they moved up to the attic, which involved going up a narrow stairway from my parents bedroom. Three of them ended up there and the others took over my bedroom as I was hardly there. Not very good, but we had to make do with what we had.

My parents allowed me to pick the colors to decorate my bedroom when I was about 15, circa 1973. The first 3 things I remembered when I read your question were:

1. The colors-neon green walls, bright lemon yellow bedspread and curtains, orange and yellow sunburst on the wall. My mom HATED the colors and was thrilled when she could redo the room after I moved out.

2. My sticker collection, including the bright daisy cutouts and STP oil sticker, on my closet doors.

3. My desk; crammed with books and stationary.

Our house was built in 1905 so I remember the slanted walls. Great for posters. I remember the wooden windows. I remember my comfy bed. I still have my dresser that I've been carting around. When my parents bought the house it was in a corner in the basement. Been with me ever since. I love that old thing.

My bedroom had pink wallpaper with blue flowers and sky
blue trim. It had white furniture with a twin bed, a dresser with
a skirt, a sky blue bookcase and a white desk. I had my own bathroom and a huge walk-in closet. It had two windows with
shades and white ruffled curtains. That was in the 50's when I was a child. I loved that room.
