my grandparents are very truthfull and very blunt about things. Like i was wearing these shoes my nana didnt like and she just flat out told me they were ugly. My grandparents love to talk and do stuff they have been almost everywhere and done everything. My grandpa also did the crank that dance with my cousin and I. I think this comes with there age. But i also know some older folk that anrt truthfull and un talkative

I am not a grandparent though I am old enough to be.
I think it is because by the time a person is in their 40s or 50s they know a lot from experience.
And they want to share it with you, the young people, because the young people don't think the older ones know anything.
My mom used to talk all the time and I got so sick of it. Then when she was 72 she had a stroke and couldn't talk. She died last year and I wish she was back to her old talking self.
Just let them talk and sometimes you have to let it go in one ear and out the other and when they repeat theirself, just ignore it or change the subject.

I'm not sure if age has something to do with it, and more like their personality. My husband's grandparents wouldn't say anything mean and are more the quiet type about things like that. My grandma, on the other hand, doesn't hold back. My best friend lost a lot of weight recently and now every time my grandma sees her, she has to say, "Wow, you lost a lot of weight. You used to be so fat! Do you remember?" She also has a lot to say about the people in the assisted living place she lives in. Unfortunately, some people are like that.

No, they just forget or ignore the fact that the younger generations have feelings too. My parents do this and they are 77 and 87.
They forget too that they need to continue to earn the right to be respected and that just because they are "old" doesn't automatically give them that right.
The older generations can appear to be very insensitive, sometimes its actually a mental deterioration, so they don't realise they are like this. They often don't realise they are being offensive as hearing degenerates as we age and one can miss nuances along with bits of sentences in a conversation. Conclusions are then drawn and comments made that could be totally inappropriate or considered way out of order.
Its sad as well as annoying, that people forget to be polite at all times. It costs nothing.

Not all grandparents are truthful and some people die as liars in their old age.
Ok as for your shoes, just because your grand parents think they are ugly doesnt mean everyone else does too.It is just THEIR opinion, and they have the freedom to express it.Though I would have tried to be a little nicer about it.

Yes the older you get the more you really speak your mind and dont really care what folks think. Oh you sound like you are having a blast with your grandparents. Seriously, my kids love their granny. She is HALARIOUS!!!!!!!!!!! And yes she says whatever is on her mind and it is soooooooooooooo funny!!! She takes her teeth out......talks about her gastric issues.......discusses how her body parts are sagging....complains day and night about their choice in music..........and is always fussing about something. We all roll out eyes in the back of our heads and just breath easy.
Take a deep breath and just love them while you have them........once they are gone a very important part of your family and the family history is gone with them.

Yep, the older you get, the more you realize that there really isn't any time to be beating around the bush.
Just tell it straight and truthfully and go on from there.

I think older people think manners don't apply to them. I think back about how much I disliked my older relatives who ALWAYS seemed to put other people down with their gossip and constant nit-picking.
If you feel like you are being put down, then I'd sit down with our grandparent and ask why they think it's ok to put others down. Obviously they aren't listening to themselves.
