I don't know of a way to modify a lock to do what you want. However, common sense would indicate that if you forgetfully lock yourself out, a key hidden someplace might work well for you. I have never seen a house lock that doesn't automatically unlock itself once you open it from the locked inside position. There are springs inside that trip the lock mechanism.
You might try Schlage, or you may want to take the lock back where you got it and ask to see similar products to see if they do the same. HOWEVER this could be a commercial lock, designed especially for the purpose you are having problems with. Sort of like security stairwell doors. They open when you push the bar from the inside, then return to locked position to keep people who should not have access to that floor out and most will not open from the stairwell or wherever wthout a key.

Most fire safety codes dictate easy egress, so most locks have the inside function you describe. Your lock's function cannot be easily changed. However, Schlage and most other lock manufacturers, will sell you an " institutional " function lock. This will be always locked on both sides, and will require a key on both sides.

No, you have what is called a Panic Escape lock-set. You will need to replace the whole lock-set with a new one that does not have that feature...

Buy a lock that is made that way. I believe all Quiksets are made that way. Of course the keys are not compatible between the two kinds of locks.

I had those kinds of doorknobs! I think they call them "quick panic escape" or something like that... When we changed some of our doorknobs, we made sure they didn't have that feature. You'll just have to replace that one if you don't like that feature. I know that Lowe's has all the doorknobs they sell on display as well and you can test them to see if they have that feature or not. There wasn't a price difference between them. Good luck with it.
