without getting all preppy technical on you, because neither is a preppy out fit by definition, the first one is more preppy than the second one. to me the mini skirt out fit is a bit too young, a bit too trendy. The first one is more classic. brown sweater, jeans and boots could have been worn in the 60s, 80s, and today. simple and timeless is the key. lace is not preppy.

Neither of the two outfits you described would ever fit into the 'prep' category - sorry, I think you have some brushing up to do on your fashion labels. Oh - and the first outfit sounds more attractive, the second sounded trashy.
