I think most everyone has said tdecide if it's really what you want then find someone local.
I went through the same problem like 2 years ago and actually decided not to go after it. Too much negativity from friends and all. But earlier this year I thought why not and found this place online called One Source Talent. Well, I shouldn't say online since they have an office here, I just found them while doing some research online. Anyway, it's worked out well. I think like most I haven't made a ton of money but I also haven't been taken. They're really good and I recommend them. www.onesourcetalent.com
Just stay grounded and realistic. That's my advice if it's something you go after.

You need to go to glamor shots and get a head shot. Take that and get a package made. Purchase the photo so you have the rights to use it. Make Black and White photos and send them to the marketing departments for such companies as the Gap, sears, Bealls etc and maybe you can get a job doing clothing. Whatever you are told is your best asset, stick with that. Hands, feet whatever. You can also be a great model by eating healthy and having a great personality. Don't ever sleep with the boss for a job.

Well, first you need an agent. Go online and search "Modeling Agencies" in google. Then read over the agency site and if you like it, call them. They will set it up with you. You will have to send in an applicattion and pics. The agency will then set you up with jobs. You'll probably start somewhere small like Kohls or some other department store.
Good Luck!

First, you will need to spend about 1200 bucks on a reputable photographer with experience in the fashion industry, to make a book, then submit your book to agencies, you can of course take your book to casting calls yourself of course, but then you would only be able to go to open castings, if you are hot merchandise you won't have to go to many casting, you will get direct bookings... Check with Irene Marie, Ford, Wilhelmina, NYC models etc, do a google on "Modeling Agencies" this will give you plenty to do..
Just a tip or two: Most agencies want you to be sknny as hell, 5 ft 9 or taller, you must be willing to travel a lot, and a model's life can be crappy, living in model apartments that your agency rnts and then sublets to many models for a high profit, your agency takes most of what you earn, I dated a girl once who was to go to japan for 2 months for 30k but in the contract she had to live in their apartment, and use their transportation, AND pay for both out of the 30 k.. she came back owing her home agency 2 grand....
