How can I put a twist on the unpopular girl tries to join a popular clique plot?

I want to write a book like that but then I'll just be sounding like The Clique or The A-List or Gossip Girl etc...

Can you tell me how to put a twist on that over-used plot?

Unpopular girl is a geek who moved away in middle school. She comes back in high school gorgeous, but everyone still sees her as the ugly geek from Jr. High past....

It's always more fun if the unpopular girl has a paranormal ability, but that's been overdone too (Carrie, The Craft, etc.)

There's also the "unpopular girl charms the handsome new boy," twist.

There is nothing creative that's truely "original," or as Einstein put it, "The secret to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources."
That being said, here is a lesser-known unoriginal one that might to stir up conversation:
Unpopular girl is an undiagnosed schitzophrenic who goes berzerk in her first paranoid episode and starts acting out in a freaky, sadistic, passive aggressive rage. Nobody knows why she is acting out at first, but after a diagnosis, her world begins to crumble as she realizes that anything can be a hallucination. One of her imaginary friends or antagonists suggests that her life may not even be a hallucination, but rather a video game, a movie, or -GASP- a book!
