A Prism MUST be made of a transparent substance to allow light to pass through it. A Pyramid doesn't have to be transaparent. A prism can be in the shape of a pyramid.

darrol's answer is good, i explain to my 7/8 year old students that you can cut slices from a prism that will have the same shape and face size each time, think about a loaf of bread or a toblerone, both are prisms. a pyramid has either a triangular or a square base and the other faces come up from the base to join in a point at the top.

A prism is any space figure with 2 congruent and parallel bases, for which it is named (i.e. trapezoidal prism, pentagonal prism, triangular prism). A pyramid, despite being a space figure, ONLY HAS ONE BASE. Therefore, although it is a space figure, it is not a prism
