I was on a Harry Potter messageboard and I got into a little tiff with one of the very devout HP fans. She posted on the board that if she finds me she will make me drink washing-up liquid. What is she talking about? I assume it's something to do with cleaning...

It's just dish soap, like Dawn, for washing dishes by hand. In England, the most popular brand is Fairy Liquid -- that might help with your response to that little brat! :-)

It's an old term for dishwashing soap. Remember that back in the old days, there wasn't liquid handwashing soap except in public bathrooms.

Washing up is British for doing the dishes. She wishes to make you drink dish washing detergent.

That's what the Brits call dishwashing detergent. Like Dawn, Ivory liquid, etc.

Dish detergent..My Husband is British and he always says this! I get a kick out of it...its so well literal!
