Yeah, I grew up on a lot of the earlier country and still enjoy it a lot.

Johnny Cash
Willie Nelson
Waylon Jennings
George Jones
Merle Haggard
Charlie Rich
Glen Campbell
Loretta Lynn
John Conlee
All the Hanks (Sr., Jr., and III)
Alabama
Bellamy Brothers
Alan Jackson (played CBGB's)
Eddie Rabbit
the list goes on..........

Darth Maul is nailing it on songs (Sunday Morning Coming Down is my favorite and I love Rose Colored Glasses except it was sung by John Conlee.(There is Earl Thomas Conley but he did not perform it.)) Also up on the list is Wichita Lineman by Glen Campbell, He Stopped Loving Her Today by George Jones, and The Last Thing I Needed The First Thing This Morning by Willie Nelson.

Sure- I am primarily a metalhead, also like a lot of classic rock and singer/songwriters like joseph arthur and bob marley, tom waits, etc. But I was raised on outlaw country, and still love it- I listen to Kris Kristofferson (genius songwriter), Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams SR and Willie Nelson. Good music is good music.

*EDIT*- note to Darth- "Sunday Morning Comin' Down", while a hit for Johnny Cash, was written by Kris Kristofferson, and I prefer his version!

Yeah, I was raised on old country(70's and earlier) until I was about 8, and then when I discovered rock n roll, I went straight for the hard stuff, and as I get older, the music I listen to gets harder and harder, but I still like that old country stuff.

I'm a country girl who likes to rock out sometimes. And when I say country I mean Hank Sr, Hank 3, Waylon, not this pop country bs. I love both real country, and rock.
For those who don't think they like country music check out
Hank Williams III-he does country with his band "the damn band" and metal with his band *ssjack
Wayne Hancock
Those Poor Bastards
Bob Wayne and the outlaw carnies
The honky tonk hustlas
David Allan Coe
Reverend Horton Heat
You might actually enjoy them.

I loved Johnny Cash and saw him in concert about a half a dozen times, mostly with June Carter. Most of the rest of Country that I'll listen to is Alternative Country or Americana like A ss Ponys, Dave Alvin and Jason & The Scorchers. Acts like Brooks & Dunn and Garth Brooks are totally lame!
