Unless you're eating only predators that ou've personally hunted in the wild, the beasts you're eating don't die a warrior's death. That cow you raised with your own hands can't defend itself very easily. And chances are, the cow that you actually eat was raised in abominable conditions in a feedlot. This is not to say that I'm a vegetarian, only that it's not necessarily so black and white. Many vegetarians eat that way for health reasons, legitimate ones. It can be hard to do, but it's not impossible. There is a small amount of scientific evidence that plants feel pain and fear, which does complicate the decision if you're trying to avoid all suffering to other life. However, we do have to eat something, and artificial food usually doesn't meet all the requirements, because we don't understand exactly how our bodies work. I like the other answerer's suggestion that we be mindful of -- thankful for -- everything we eat. Especially when others starve to death every day, we should realize how fortunate we are to have the choices we do.
