Ron Hextall became the first goalie to ever score a goal today, December 8th, back in 1987.
Today is also Gordon "Red" Berenson's birthday. (whom I've never heard of)

Red Berenson holds the modern NHL record for most goals in a game with 6 (along with Darryl Sittler and Sydney Howe). Berenson is the only person in NHL history to score more than 5 goals in a road game.
He's also been the coach at the University of Michigan for years, and coached the St. Louis Blues to 2nd place overall in 1981 (the year Michael Liut was runner up for the Hart)
