No I wouldn't. But I have my reasons. When I was pregnant with my first son I went to a male doctor. I had a really bad experience with him and refuse to go to another male doctor. So I specifically ask for a female.

Nope. The whole reason I like the midwife is because she's given birth before and knows first hand what I'm going through (and I make sure my midwife is a mother!). I also seem to get better attention and understanding from a female midwife. After my first experience with male doctors, I'll not use anything but a female for any woman issues, be it a yeast infection or a pregnancy. I learned from that experience and won't use males again. A guy learned it from books. He could never learn from personal experience. Gimme a female doctor or midwife, or even nurse practitioner anyday!

Well, I hope women will look past the gender, because a midwife is a midwife. Trained and able to assist. Why would a woman be willing to go to a male doctor but not to a male midwife. Both trained to do the job.
Is someone discriminating?

Nope. I would not. I would like to have a midwife who has 'been there'. Also, women are naturally more compassionate then men. I am sure some men can do this just fine, but I would have to say my stereotyping would play a role in my decision making and I would not want one.

I have no idea about the first part of your question, but as far as being comfortable with a male stranger delivering your baby - I had a male doctor with my last baby. When I went into labor, he was on vacation, & another male doctor whom I had never met or heard of was on call at the hospital & attended my birth. I say "attended" because he walked out right when my daughter was crowning & the nurse delivered her. He stepped back in shortly after. I wasn't comfortable when I "heard" he would be delivering me, but when it came time to push, I completely forgot about all of that! I just wanted whoever to help get me out of the pain I was in!

ye sure why not he a professional same as a male doctor, i dont see the diff to be honest, i would like that, female midwifes tend to not listen very much to you during birth, at leat with a man if i told him to leave me alone he would step back.

Yes....not all midwives have had children themselves so don't actually have that 1st hand knowledge of what you're going through.....the last 2 I had were 23 and 18....mere children...lol So yes why not go to a Male .
