we spend all our year teaching our children not to tell lies and then come December we bombard them with stories of Santa and his Reindeer n Elvs? Surely this is backwards?

Because there little children. Childhood only really lasts about 10 years but you live in this world about 70 more. Let them have there santa and elves. Atleast they get a small glimmer of happiness and magic in there life.

Its just something to make the time of year seem that bit more magical for them. Santa is seen as a source of good. It also teaches them to be good as if they are not then Santa wont bring presents. Plus the look on their faces, its priceless

Children also have to realise the difference between a white lie (fib) and the lies that damage and hurt. Let's face it, everybody tells untruths, normally to protect each other from getting hurt, or losing face.

The innocence of childhood is gone so quickly these days, there's so little magic left in the world, it really doesn't hurt them, and to see their little faces on Christmas morning 'he's been!' is just wonderful.

It's just a bit of magic, where's the harm in that? I've yet to meet anyone who's been traumatised for life by the fact that Santa isn't real so why should it be a problem? My best friend is a devout Christian & her kids believe in Santa. It's just a bit of fun, lighten up!

But there was a santa years back! So we are really using the 'Saint' for our own happiness.

We also tell our children about God and Jesus - we have no proof of these either.

And fairies - angels - goblins - Leprechauns - ghosts - witches - wizards - etc etc

I have to disagree. The myth of santa is not about deciet, which true lies is about. It is about giving in a selfless way and believing that there is good in this world. Myths are myths - not lies!

My parents never chose to lie to me about the Santa bit. I never believed in Santa. I had trouble understanding why I couldn't tell my friends there was no Santa. I still don't understand why parents tell their children there is such a thing.

Just keep lying. As they grow up, they will notice that Santa id stupid enough to be alive.
