Basically the "conservatives" of today are the "liberals" of 1960 or so. The "conservatives" of 1960 were the "librerals" of 1935 or so. And on and on and on. So are conservatives doomed to be one step behind liberals until the end of time?

So what you're saying is that over time, all of society is losing it's sense of morality and responsibility; however there is always a faction of society, those labeled as conservatives, that fight to hold onto those values and belief systems that made this country great in the first place. In that case, yes, we conservatives are a 'little slow' in relinquishing our society towards anarchy and destruction.

I think GOOD progression happens when there is a liberal push and a conservative pull. There HAS to be that balance. Are they slow? No. They're necessary.

Imagine what would happen if, for the last 50 years, the democratic party went completely unopposed. Chaos.

Now imagine what would happen if, for the last 50 years, the republican party went completely unopposed. Eugh, I'm going to be sick.

So they're not one step behind. They're right next to you. They're keeping you in check. Just as you're keeping them in check. Too much forward motion all at once demolishes a society and leaves it vulnerable. No forward motion kills a society and it loses power. With both parties there we walk forward at a nice, steady pace.

Sorry brickety, your statement is completely false. It is true that yesterday's democrats would be today's republicans, i.e. Kennedy, Truman, and Wilson. The libs of the 60s are the far left wing of the democrat party, and today, as in their younger days, they are out of step with the majority of Americans. Hope this helped you understand.

I just think it's pathetic that instead of addressing any specific issues everyone just hurls the insults of "conservative" or "liberal" at each other.

Yeah, that really accomplishes alot.

Yes....usually about 30 years or so. change is inevitable and to fight change is a losing idea, but most fear change and so cling to the past for comfort. hence good old days that were not all that good but appear as such after the fact.

Where did you conduct your research? Seems like FDR had the integrity and guts to protect America, unlike the anti-American dems of today.

And, the liberals of the 60's are infact the liberals of today. Hippies, draft dodgers, dead beats, etc. Get serious dude.

Where would JFK fit in? He would not recognize the democrat party of today.

Like religious folk, they have faith and resist the temptation to ask questions of the authority figure that they have chosen to follow.
