Hello,
After reading all of the posted questions about IUD's and pregnancy i still find myself wondering about my situation.
I had my IUD removed on Dec. 3rd. This would have been 2 days after ovulation. My husband and i were "together" November 28,29,30th and December 1st.
I am now having some slight bleeding due to the removal. BUt i'm wondering if there is a chance that maybe somehow we could have concieved from the days before the IUD came out. I know sperm can live in you for up to 5 days. I'm just wondering IF the bleeding is due to the removal (and its not a irregular period) if there is still a chance that i could be pregnant. We were wanting to wait a few months and try in March but after reading some other questions and answers on here im getting nervous that maybe we shouldnt have been together prior to having the IUD removed.
If this makes any sence to you i'd love to hear your thoughts and or advice.
thanks so much

--- to aswer that question: No thats not it at all! I'm more than happy to be pregnant now. I'd just like to know if i am so i can take prenatal supplements and make sure i test and see a doctor. My son was born a heart defect so if i am pregnant now it is going to be considered a high risk pregnancy. So i guess i'd just like to know if its possible if i am. We were wanting to wait until March to follow the 3 month rule so that my body can get rid of any extra hormones due to the IUD.
Thanks for answering!

You will experience some spotting after the removal of the IUD. Also, within the same month of getting it removed we got pregnant.

In the proper environment, such as the female reproductive tract beyond the cervix, sperm have a life-span of up to five days. In other environments, such as the vagina, sperm live only a few hours and even less than that outside the human body, exposed to the open air. The egg, on the other hand, has a life-span of only about twenty-four hours from the time it bursts from the ovary. So, fertilization can occur anytime live sperm meet up with a live egg, which can happen even if the sperm are deposited up to five days in advance of ovulation

I'm not sure about the Mirena, but if it's the standard paraguard IUD, you should be fine. Sperm are chemically attracted to the copper portion which would leave them in your uterus (an acidic environment that sperm die fairly quickly in), so they shouldn't have made their way up your fallopian tubes anyway. If it's the Mirena, I don't know. Good luck.

Calm down, would it be so terrible if you are pregnant now? Since you were planning to try in a few months anyhow, what difference does it make in the big scheme of things. You would just have your baby 3 months sooner than you planned. Wait a few weeks and then talk to your doctor.

Speak to your Obgyn. Please have a professional test/opinion, when it comes to such important questions of concern.
