Is it possible to have 2 laptops connected to the internet wirelesly with out having a desk top to attached the router to, if so how is this done?
is it a case off say signing up with a broadband provider such as o2 and they will provide a modem which will be plugged into the phone line then a router will be plugged into the modem and the 2 lap tops will be able to pick up this connection wirelessly?

If your computers are wireless enabled and ready to search connections, you should be able to go through the control panel to connections, search for connections, select your router, type in the wireless key and away you go. If you had driver disks with your router you could try loading them. You don't need a central point (eg desktop) switched on, the router works independently. I have a PC Desktop, PC laptop and a Mac laptop and they all work independently or all together.

My Linksys wireless router can connect 4 computers to the Internet using Ethernet plug in cables the same time as its operating a wireless Internet connection to other whatever computers

You need a modem, a router and two lappys which can work wirelessly. We have two working here at the moment wireless - desktop is n't even plugged in!
