Buddy At anytime when a waterpump leaks it is never a good thing to take any chances to try and stretch it further. The whole question is this,do you want to destroy the entire engine.? You have two choices in this matter one is to replace it yourself,or have a qualified mechanic do the job for you and the thing is that front wheeel drive is a lot more challenging to do work on anything carwise. However it can all be done at a reasonable cost and the time to replace it is right now before you cook the motor to ruination.GOOD LUCK TO YOU.e mail me on this and let me know if this helped you.

Lets assume that you are going to go to the current repair shop and just drive the car to the other one. Bring several large containers of water along. Gallon milk jugs or ice-chest or something like this. If it leaks water, you need extra water. Jugs filled from garden hose is fine. Watch the dashboard Temp gauge. If it goes into the red, pull over and stop. You may need to just sit for a while and let it cool, and you may need to add water. If you keep driving with Temp in the red range, you'll get boiling water and steam coming out of the engine, and this will make the engine much more expensive to repair, it may crack the block or head from the excess heat. If you are concerned about the risk as I've elaborated, possibly paying for a tow is less of a risk. And getting help with a friend and a tow rope is possible, but 14 miles is a long way to go, and it is not legal to tow a car on a rope, so the cost of the ticket might be comparable to the cost of the tow.

Your water pump may last a day a week, or a month before it finally goes completely out, when it does, I promise it will be at the most inconvient time, and miels from anywhere.

A Haynes manual will cost you about 20.00, add that to the cost of the waterpump, and that's yoru total if you do it yourself....

Don't take a chance on bigger repairs, fix it now, if you can't afford it, park it and get a ride until you can.

If your pump leaks, then sooner or later, you will run out of coolant. The engine will cook itself and you will have to either rebuild it or replace the entire engine.

the best thing to do, is to have it fixed before it does any serious damage. You should be able to get water into it and drive it to the repair shop, as long as it is not a 100 miles away.

Good luck

As long as you keep your coolant level up you can drive for a while.

you can drive until your waterpump decides to blow completely if you want to be stranded.
