One heater hose is hot (the one coming off the engine block) and the other one is cold (coming from the water pump). I get heat for about a second and it quits. I bled the air out of it, changed the thermostat and checked for vacuum connections which aren't present anywhere. Everything on the control side is mechanical, the guy at the Auto Parts store says the heater core is blocked because both hoses aren't hot. I replaced the heater core last year; could it be obstructed that quick? The truck runs at a normal temperature I just don't get any heat and it's 20 degrees out there! Any help would be appreciated.

You should try to flush out the heater core AND the radiator to insure proper flowing of each. Afterwords, check that the system is working properly. Also, check the condition of your thermostat and your fan switch. When you are sure that everything is working up to snuff, replace your coolant with a foreign car coolant (like Mercedes Benz) because it is far gentler on expensive aluminum components than the "green" stuff. Sounds to me like you have already suffered some damage (heater core) brought on by excessive acidity, etc, in your cooling system already. The MB coolant will properly preserve your cooling system from future acidity related problems and protect your engine longer. Good Luck!!

I had a similar problem with a 94 escort. The ford mechanic told me that it had to do with some internal fins in the water pump. Because of the location of the water pump is was going to cost like 500 to fix it. I just wore gloves for the winter and sold that sucker in the summer time. The A/C was still ice cold.

Take both heater hoses off , run water threw one of the hoses, if no water comes out go under the dash and move controls by hand. bet you that one of your control rods is stuck or cable is off
