That is a tough question to answer. You could say that John Lennon had a greater impact because he was in the business longer and was an influence to most that came after him. On the other hand, Buddy Holly was there practically at the birth of rock and roll, and was an influence on Lennon, Stones, etc. and who is to say that if he did not die in the plane crash, what his legacy would have been.

It was Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and The Big Bopper that died. I still say music died back then, not that John Lennon and George Harrison aren't missed.
I also grieve at the loss of Stevie Ray Vaughan, and this year's passing of Boston vocalist Brad Delp.

yes, i think John Lennon was a true music idol that made a huge impact on the youth of that time and throughout the 60's and 70's. I think that the world lost a great person when he passed....

I think that the day music really died was that fateful day in october of 77 when Ronnie Van Zant and other members of Lynnyrd Skynnyrd died. I tell everyone I was born two months after rock and roll really died
