I just can't! Can someone help me, it's easy but I'm stuck...I have no idea what to do. I think my brain's dead today lol

When Jackson got on the elevator he was 60 feet above ground level. When he got off on the lowest parking level, he was 24 feet below ground level. How far did the elevator travel down?

I think I got 36 or something because I subtracted, and that's not the right answer.

Mathematically, this is +60 - -24 = 60 + 24 = 84. The answer is 84 feet.

You can think of it this way: The elevator went 60 feet to get to ground level, then it went another 24 feet below ground. Altogether, it went 60 + 24 = 84 feet.

that's it! :)

It is 60 feet just to ground level. From there, he drops another 24 feet below ground level. The elevator traveled 60 and 24 for 84 feet.

The question is asking you how far the elevator travelled so you take the two numbers and add them because it is asking for a total.

60 + 24 = 84

Jackson travelled 84 feet below ground level.

Hope this helped!

He travelled 60 feet to ground level. Then he travelled an additional 24 feet to the parking garage. The total number of feet he travelled is 60 + 24 = 84 feet.

84 feet.

see, you just have to set up an equation for it.

60 - (-24) = 84

he started 60 feet ABOVE ground level (60 in the equation)
and ended up 24 feet BELOW ground level (-24 in the equation)

subtract the two values and you end up with 84 feet.

84 feet because the question says he started out 60 feet ABOVE ground and then he was 24 feet BELOW ground level. you have to add not subtract

84, because you had to go the 60 feet to ground level plus the 24 feet below.

Add!: 84 feet. Think of it as a line of 60 units on top of 24 units.
The elevator travels from 1 to 64 downwards, then a further 24 units in the same direction. It's not (+) -24, rather (-) -24; which is +24.

Well, all the question is really saying is what subtracted from 60 will give you -24. So the answer is 84.

Just add the distance above the ground with the distance below to get 84 feet. If this doesn't make sense, drawing a picture and labeling it might make it clearer.
