O.k.
I am 40 weeks 2 days, I was at a 2 on Thurs. My doc
stripped my cervix, and said I should go into labor in 24 hours
So , when that didn't happen I drank castor oil.
Contractions started and lasted about 3 hours, 15 minutes apart. They were some what strong. Then they stopped.
I tried castor oil again, I woke up at 4 am from VERY strong contractions but, they were all over the place, 1 minute apart then 5 then 2 etc. This lasted for about 2 hours and then nothing again.
I had been losing my plug slowly for about 2 weeks, but yesterday I lost a large amount two different times, it was about the size of a 50 cent piece and had blood streaks.
My questions are, has anyone else had this happen and when did labor start ? any suggestion on getting it started ? and has anyone ever heard of castor oil causing harm to a baby (like making him mess in the sack ?)
The Daddy won't have sex(he thinks he is going to hurt the baby)
3rd baby, induced with the other two early.
Thanks

All of this has happened in the last 2 days.

my doctor knows I am taking the castor oil as well as labor and delivery at my hospital, so, NO I will not be charged with child endangerment (rblanken)

people who post something just to scare people when it is not true suck!

Thanks to everyone else. I just called the L&D to be sure the baby would be o.k. and they said he would be fine.
But, it sounded possible to me that if I am pooping he would be too, That is why I asked and called L&D
Thanks for your responses

Hi, Hope I can help a little, I had this happen with my 3rd baby, I was walking around with my contractions on and off for 3 weeks, and finally when I passed the plug couple days later, Finally my water broke, which didn't happen with the previous ones, they had to brake my water, and after the water broke, 2 hours later I had my 3rd son. With the 3rd one I was at the hospital 2 times before i actually gave birth the 3rd time. The 1st time in the hospital they had to stop the contractions because they were strong but all over the place, and I wasn't opening, so the 2nd time I was still having contractions but I was still only 1 cm open, I was sent home again. 3rd time was lucky though. Yeah so 3 weeks that I had my contractions which were all over every 3 then 2 then 10 min apart. I hope everything goes well for you and your baby is all healthy when it comes!!

Castor oil dehydrates you and that puts the baby at risk. Beyond that it causes intestional cramps, which are not the same as contractions, and that can cause fetal distress as the cramping doesnt cause productive progress of labor.

Stimulate your nipples like a fiend, have your husband help. Rub and pinch them for 20 minutes at a time every hour, or just non-stop if you want. Keep it up and dont let time go inbetween over an hour. I promise it will move things along.

I was in labor 43 1/2 hours and thats how I got through it. Even pushing my contractions were irregular and I had to tweak my nipples the whole time to get contractions to come on so i could push.

It WILL work, I promise.

1st...Castor oil is a big nono! Doctors say not to try this and to let labor begin on its own. It causes too many problems and is not clinically proven to be ok!

2nd...Dad is on the right track! Once your membranes have been stripped by a doctor, sex may not be the best idea either as your water may have ruptured and only be trickling out. Sex after rupture is a nono as well. Call your doc and get seen ASAP! Labor will start naturally, even though we as women are always impatient for it to start! And if the docs get concerned they will give you pitocin to help start and speed it up.

I know you are probably tired of waiting but the baby will come when it is ready. I usually go into labor really quick but for some reason my last baby I was dilated for 2 weeks and the doctor decided to induce me because the baby was getting big. Every baby is different and some just like making their mommies wait. Hope everything goes well for you.

First of all, the only thing castor oil will do is give you diahrea. It sounds to me like you need to induce labor. The longer you go and have contraction so sporadically without result, the more danger you're putting the baby in. My best friend has the same problem, and developed toxemia. She alomst died and almost lost her daughter.

Yes, castor oil can cause the baby to release meconium (poop) early, which is very dangerous. It can also cause you do go into severe dehydration if you start having the usual diarrhea and vomiting. It is not worth the risk, so please stop.

You will go soon. We're in the same boat. You have less than 2 weeks max until baby comes...let him/her come in their own time.

castor oil can make the baby poop, which is bad. i read about breast massage/ stimulation that helps.
it will come out when it is ready

i would not use it any more. if your doct. finds out, they can charge you with child indangerment! it can be harmful to your baby. i would be talking to your doct. & find out why he is letting you stay like this. he should be inducing you. sorry to hear of your trouble.
