This was the latest news I heard: Winter storm warning is effect for the metro and lots of surrounding counties, from 6pm tonight until sometime on Wed. Starting tonight (Monday) around 6pm we are supposed to get freezing rain, with intensity picking up overnight. The freezing rain will continue for most of Tuesday and Tues night. Wed might turn into snow or wintry mix, with the precipitation finally ending around noon on Wed.

Total ice accumulation is expected to be 0.5-1". Since it only takes 0.25" of ice to bring down power lines, this storm will definitely knock out power in some areas and there will be lots of broken tree branches on the roads in addition to the ice. There's a possibility of isolated thunderstorms with this system, and if you happen to be under a thunderstorm you might get even more than 1" of ice. So if your powerlines are not underground, you probably want to stock up on firewood and nonperishables today!

The highs are supposed to stay in the 20's until Thursday or Friday, so this won't be melting anytime soon either...

No NHL team in K.C. The Islanders are thinking about moving there, but I hope they don't because of the Rangers-Islanders rivalry.

i live in overland park ks and i know everything about storms. u just name it weather severe or not and ill go to work. So the deal is that the Ice Storm isn't going to come in till lader tonight in to early sunday morning and more on sunday in to monday early morning in to early tuesday. But at least everything that is coming down from the sky is just frezzing drizzle and it is going to pick up intensity to light frezzing rain to moderate frezzing rain to heavy frezzing rain early saturday night in to late saturday night, but the main part of the storm is going to come in on early sunday morning into late sunday night..
