Hi, I live in my a three story house and part of my front yard (about 10 ft. by 10 ft) and a little bit of my basement has termites. The guy told me the price would be.
1600 for the first extermination.
Then, for the next five years, he has to come every 3 months to do something which costs 120. so total, it would be 2400.
then at the end of the five years, i would need to do another final extermination which is another 1600. Is all this actually necessary or is he just trying to get extra money?
so the final price is 5600.

Termites only need to be treated once every 4 to 5 yrs. Most exterminators will do the job and give a warranty for the first year at least. If any live termites show up...they treat it again for free. The monthly thing is for other insects...he is just trying to get you to lock in a contract for pest control.

$5600
is that guy crazy
thats alot of money for an extermination
i dont know what the average price on an extermination is but i would say ask more exterminators for an estimate and see if they all say the samething
now that i think of it, i was watching dirty jobs on discovery channel and it only took them like 3 days to get rid of termites and rplace a wooden beam

You are getting RIPPED OFF in a MAJOR way!!!!!! Call someone else, fast and ditch this person.

Two main ways to ride termites: Spray or "catch and bait." Spray usually does the job quickly, most effectively and cheaply. The bait system is more expensive, especially to set up, and less effective, although better for the environment.

Still, it should NOT be THAT much money!!! Call a reputable firm.

Call around and find another exterminator or two and get more opinions. You have time, termites don't eat as fast as you seem to think. It sounds a bit high to me too.

For that much money you bet I'd be contacting other companies for their price. Also contact your Extension Service office for your county and talk to their agent. While they are not suppose to give names of businesses, they may be able to steer you to companies who aren't so intent getting your money. Also, there's a guy on the net www.askthebugman.com who might have suggestions on how you might be able to do some of this work yourself. he's an entomologist with a big bent towards "green" or less toxic/notoxic alternatives.
