"Being straight forward and to the point is is FOR THE BIRDS!" Means being straight forward and to the point is OK for the birds they can fly and have no red tape to deal with! However, today, we human beings have to be very diplomatic in our dealings with others! We have to use politically correct language! In short we cannot be straight forward and to the point without stamping on someones toes!!!

It's kind of sarcastic and ironic. This person is proving their point by using an expression "for the birds" to punctuate the fact that they would rather not be concise and direct.

Birds are proverbial for stupidity; thus "birdbrain." So the sentence suggests that straightforwardness would be foolish.

It's just another way of saying your idea is really no good and there is a better idea or better way of doing it. It's kind of derogatory and could be insulting.
