I just moved into a duplex and I can hear everything through a shared bedroom wall. The duplex used to be a 1 bedroom, but the owners took the master bedroom from next door and split it in half, thus adding on a second bedroom to my duplex. The wall that was built to split the master bedroom is the one I can hear everything through, what can I do to get/give some more privacy?

I would ask the landlord for his/her advice... and assuming the answer would be a firm "no"--cut your loss, and find a different place to reside. I would not put ANY work into another person's house without being able to reap the benefits

We lived in an apartment years ago with paper thin walls. We put foam insulation board like Dow Board all over the one bedroom wall, finish nails held it very well, and left only tiny holes to fill. And then hung curtains across the whole wall, to hide the foamboard, insulated curtains from a rummage sale worked best of all. A little "white noise" like a small fan running on low, and it wasn't perfect, but much bettethan before.

When we lived in a shared duplex, we took the electrical plates off and sprayed foam insulation into them. It helped some. I eventually put corkboard square up on the wall and that helped some more.Your landlord should have planned ahead.

Annoying isn't it? you can either put up another sound wall, talk to the neighbors, record them or sell. Not much choice, since ours were druggies and she was a prostitute, we decided to just move quietly.
