In our culture we too often portray the elderly as out of date.
Most elderly people have forgotten more information than a young person has learned yet.
In a perfect world we would be learning from them because the life experience they have had is very valuable. We rob ourselves in America because we often treat them as if they are a burden, and what they have to say as obsolete.
I think time and real life experience is the best teacher, but we are so youth obsessed we cheat ourselves by not using our best resource of knowledge. Our elderly.

Yes I think we are portrayed as out of date. As for wise no I don't think so. I think younger people tend to ignore and make fun of us. Many a time I see that in malls etc.
And why do people think we are all hard of hearing? I hate that. I always ask them why are you yelling?
Supposedly Japan respects the elderly I think I am going to move.
Young people don't care and its really scary because they are going to be running this country one day.

I have a 93 year old friend who's probably one of the awesomest people I know. She has all her faculties, just moves a little slower on her feet. Her and can b.s. about anything. She got a computer last year and thought at first she was too old to learn. Well, one year later and she's a regular computer geek!

For the 13 to 30 year olds,
we're out of date. After 30,
we start getting very wise.
Why? Cause they are on the
road to where we are.

I don’t know about the rest of the senior citizens but my grandkids call me for instructions on how to work adobe movie making and how to work pictures on their PC. They want to know how to fix their PC and install programs and how to update. If they want to know how to make anything from wood and fix autos. I’m only seventy-two and still learning. They think I’m a genius and I’m not going to tell them any different. I’ve had my granddaughters tell their school mates that I could figure out their movie project. They tell her, “What would your grandfather know he’s old.” A week later they want her to ask me to help and she tells them, "No Way." My grandkids ask me about books, literature, I help them with their home work, Shakespeare, acting and I have some straight A grandkids. Yah, I don’t speak some of their language but I have their respect.

Both. Some elderly people do not want to keep learning. They are stuck in the past.I work with one guy who is my age and refuses to learn a computer at work. He keeps moving around so he can avoid learning. We are definitely wise!

i think they are both. but some are more out of date and some are more wise. they often don't like learning new things becauset hey learn slower and often have memory difficulties. younger teachers (like for computers, etc.) need to have more patience with elders. then it will be more fun and lots less stressful to learn new things. when elders get fussy and judgemental though they just are not fun to be around.
