I'm afraid that it might be too late for that. It would require some serious soul searching and major changes for us to accomplish that. Most people are too caught up in the pursuit of "more & better" to take notice of what's going on around them. We push this progressive age to the hilt and are never completely satisfied with what we have. Like a child, we think from moment to moment with no thought to consequences or the future. I see our youth that display no real respect for anything, and most of them talk to you like you're bubble gum on the bottom of their shoes. No body takes pride in their work any more. The whole attitude is one of getting paid the most for the leasrt amount of work done. Of course this a generalization. But.... that's where prayer and faith need to take a stand.

Sometimes, I think the U.S. is just about the only responsible, mature country on earth right now. Compared to us, countries like France are the irresponsible post-teen still living in his parents' basement and smoking weed.
On the other hand, your question is very insightful. Unlike many other countries, I believe the U.S. periodically has major "growing pains". But, at least we seem to learn from our mistakes.
It seems the Canadian rock group RUSH would agree with your premise:
Song: "New World Man", by RUSH
He's a rebel and a runner
He's a signal turning green
He's a restless young romantic
Wants to run the big machine
He's got a problem with his poisons
But you know he'll find a cure
He's cleaning up his systems
To keep his nature pure
Learning to match the beat of the Old World man
Learning to catch the heat of the Third World man
He's got to make his own mistakes
And learn to mend the mess he makes
He's old enough to know what's right
But young enough not to choose it
He's noble enough to win the world
But weak enough to lose it -
He's a New World man...
He's a radio receiver
Tuned to factories and farms
He's a writer and arranger
And a young boy bearing arms
He's got a problem with his power
With weapons on patrol
He's got to walk a fine line
And keep his self-control
Trying to save the day for the Old World man
Trying to pave the way for the Third World man
He's not concerned with yesterday
He knows constant change is here today
He's noble enough to know what's right
But weak enough not to choose it
He's wise enough to win the world
But fool enough to lose it -
He's a New World man...

there is only no longer a "primary" once you're talking approximately age and puberty. some initiate late and a few initiate early. look up "The ranges of Male Puberty" and you will look and notice if each thing is going ok.

Maybe when we stop listening to politicians tattle-taling on each other and base our votes on merit, instead of popularity.
