I never realized how much discrimination overweight people face until I gained weight after the birth of my second child. Suddenly, everyone seemed to notice my size. I wasn't obese, just enough to be overweight. My family, friends, even strangers from the grocery store had something to say about my weight. Some were concerned for my health. Others just seemed concerned about how my body looked.

Anyone who is different faces discrimination. Tyra Banks did a show on that awhile back where she dressed up in a fat suit and went around town. It was amazing how much differently she was treated. It's sad, but overweight people are looked down on and yes, they are discriminated against....and it's wrong. People just assume that overweight people have no self control and eat and eat and eat and sometimes, that is the case, but a lot more times than you think, they have a medical condition or some other reason for the pounds.

Absolutely - there are even studies that show women are the most effected by weight gain. Even a small 5lbs is something "friends and family" even strangers feel they must comment on and this contributes to the sever eating disorders in our society.

Try to tune them out they will only stress you and encourage you to make bad decisions like over or under eating even taking drugs and supplements to get the body "they" think you should have. What is most important is that you eat right exercise and love yourself and your family. Be good to yourself and you will be a better mom and you will also be surprised at how much people begin to notice your smile as opposed to your tummy. The other benefit is that it is proven that happy people lose weight faster and are less likely to have weight issues over all. Good Luck!

Yes I think we do... I wasn't big at first but after I had my second child I gained excessive weight. My twin sister was always a small type of big and now I'm a couple pounds under her. I wana go back to my first weight, but pregnancy has me still eating that. I try to stop. It works for A little while but then I keep going. ....... My whole family even says things like shutup fatass and stuff. Especially people at school look at me different... It gives me a very self conscious feeling.

Not as discriminated against as smaller people. Just because you are a healthy weight people make it an issue and it now hard to find clothes because clothes are constantly being made bigger and bigger to suit the needs of our overweight society.

Gaining weight after childbirth is normal and very understandable. But that is not the reason a large majority of the US is over weight.
